King Buffalo Psychedelic stoner rock King Buffalo will release their fourth EP Dead Star on March 20. The widely-hailed progressive heavy rock trio from Western New York will have pre-orders starting on January 24 via kingbuffalo.bigcartel.com. Pre-orders include an immediate download of the title track from the six-song, 36-minute release. Extensive tour dates will follow. Their most brazenly experimental offering to-date, Dead Star will self-release throughout North America and see European issue via Stickman Records. Self-recorded in late 2019 and early 2020 by guitarist/vocalist Sean McVay, bassist Dan Reynolds and drummer Scott Donaldson, Dead Star continues to push King Buffalo’s psychedelic aspects deep into the cosmic ether, and basks in elements of ambient drone, space rock, prog, mantra-style heavy and synthesizer soundtracking, as well as the bluesy, classic riffing and creative urgency that has underscored their particular style since their 2013 demo and 2016 debut album, Orion. A depth of mix comes courtesy of Grant Husselman, while Bernie Matthews mastered. “In the early stages of Dead Star, we made the decision to make a strong commitment to experimentation,” explains guitarist/vocalist Sean McVay. “From exploring different time signatures, tunings and textures, to tweaking the song writing processes themselves. We’re extremely proud of these recordings, and feel it’s some of our most ambitious work yet.” King Buffalo’s discography includes two full-length albums, Orion (2016) and Longing to Be the Mountain (2018), as well as three prior EPs – 2013’s Demo, a 12” split with Le Be?tre in 2015, and 2018’s Repeater. Dead Star continues the risk-taking that fueled Repeater, honoring the core dynamic of King Buffalo as a band while boldly introducing new ideas and sides of their sound to their audience. Recent years have found King Buffalo touring throughout North America and Europe, with highlight festival performances, support slots and headlining shows, and they bring that experience to the songwriting of Dead Star’s six tracks, be it the sprawling two-part leadoff “Red Star Pt. 1 & 2” or the John Carpenter-esque instrumental “Ecliptic” ahead of the chug-and-crash-prone “Eta Carinae.” All the while, King Buffalo maintain a flow and atmosphere that has served as a hallmark of their approach. “These six songs deviate and expand on horizons that we as King Buffalo haven’t yet reached,” says drummer Scott Donaldson, who also handled the graphic layout of Dead Star with Ryan T. Hancock’s striking cover art. “It’s extremely exciting to make something familiar, but unlike anything we’ve previously done. I can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”Instagram:http://www.instagram.com/kingbuffaloband/Facebook:http://www.facebook.com/kingbuffaloband/Website:http://www.kingbuffalo.com/?fbclid=IwAR2xZDA-CkVWxqx8u51S503q4HGzhGfI9iGnf9a6nSDjYzHl3WEdaJcUJS0Twitter:http://twitter.com/kingbuffaloband Hippie Death Cult Heavy metal & stoner rock After several years of cultivating a disciplined focus on certain spiritual practices as his sole vehicle to reach altered states and source higher levels of inspiration; an experience involving guitarist Eddie Brnabic’s re-acquaintance with a certain mildly psychedelic drug in 2015, turned out to serve as a key catalyst in sparking the birth of Hippie Death Cult. “A thousand riffs came pouring out of me in what seemed like an instant. All sounding like they belonged on the same album together” he describes. As a seeming endless treasure chest of focused and interconnected musical ideas had suddenly surfaced, setting the stage for a new musical project to emerge in the wake.? Working in tandem with the directional force guiding him, Brnabic then recorded a series of instrumental demos and set out to form a band. This venture did not prove to be an easy one. In fact, it took several years of searching to find the right people to form a band with the substance and integrity he had envisioned. In late 2017, when one of the band’s earlier incarnations had fallen apart, Brnabic found himself at the brink of giving up on the whole idea.? At this time, much to his surprise; his partner Laura Phillips intervened and confidently learned all of the existing songs, came up with bass parts and expressed her interest in being a part of the band. Though it had been several years since she had been a part of the Portland music scene that she had once cut her teeth in, she felt newly inspired that it was time for her return. She would later cement her role in the band during the subsequent events. Phillips had also suggested Brnabic check out drummer Ryan Moore, whom she had previously played in bands and toured with years earlier. Shortly thereafter, a fateful incident provided a chance meeting between the three. Brnabic, now more aware of Moore’s abilities and status as one of the Portland music scene’s most sought after drummers, invited Moore to jam. Met with Moore’s only concern and reply, “can I play double bass?” To which Brnabic heartily affirmed, “of course!” As it turned out, Moore’s insanely over the top and uniquely original style of drumming paired with Brnabic’s virtuosic and soulful guitar stylings, backed by the thunderous sound of Phillips’s bass attack had provided a winning chemistry that was instantly apparent once the three of them got together in a room.? The planets had started to align, and with a rock solid backbone in place the band set out to find a vocalist. After a few months of fruitless and hopeless attempts, in early 2018 a glimmer of light appeared when the band received promising response to a Craigslist ad they had placed. Also a veteran of the Portland music scene, vocalist and keyboardist Ben Jackson joined forces with the ensemble seamlessly providing a strong wealth of relevant and intelligent lyrical ideas, as well as fluid vocal melodies that complimented and enhanced the foundational force in a natural and stellar way. It was infinitely clear that some magic was going down between the four members and their unique sound together was quickly starting to take shape. Within a short span of a few months the band found themselves recording material and playing their first string of local shows in the Pacific Northwest stoner rock and doom scene with bands like Mos Generator, Ape Machine and Holy Grove. Seeing immediate results of their hard work and experience coupled with the seeming help of an unseen force guiding the band, they have quickly amassed a buzzing local and worldwide fan base that is growing in numbers every day. The band has released three singles that have gotten attention from several record labels, spots on Gimmie Radio, as well as airplay on many other notable podcasts and playlists globally. They’ve managed to maintain a strong selling merchandise collection, and also secured an independent record deal to release their first LP, all before reaching their one-year anniversary. Plans are currently being made for the announcements of their label signing, release of their debut album and subsequent tour.? .... ?"Every so often something gets me really charged. I'm telling you guys, this is becoming more and more a rarity for me. Not a lot triggers that excitement of new discovery anymore. I'm getting old 'n' jaded. Nevertheless, the power of the riff prevails! Introducing my favorite new find: Hippie Death Cult from Portland, Ore. Hippie Death Cult is one of the freshest, most vibrant bands to come out of Portland in quite some while." Give ear... -BillyGoat (Doomed & Stoned) "I don’t typically add just flat out singles to my collection, but Hippie Death Cult have something special about to go down in the heavy scene. They have three singles out there and some trippy YouTube videos of those songs that indicate their upcoming debut full-length just may be something to be anticipating. I know I can’t wait to hear more, take a listen, I think you’ll agree. Portland, Ore., strikes again." -Bucky Brown (Ripple Music/Doom Charts) ?"B-b-b-blown away. This here is utmost fire! I'm ready for life-long membership of the Hippie Death Cult, where do I sign up? -Niels Bartholdy (Cursed Tongue Records)Website:http://www.hippiedeathcultband.com/Instagram:http://www.hippiedeathcultband.com/YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwcDKgW8llmhDuD3MaEHs1QSoundcloud:http://soundcloud.com/hippie-death-cultFacebook:http://www.facebook.com/hippiedeathcultband/Bandcamp:http://hippiedeathcult.bandcamp.com/ Upcoming Events Similar Events Upcoming Events at Lola's Room * POSTPONED * TORRES Wednesday, September 30 Lola's Room Similar Events at Lola's Room * POSTPONED * TORRES Wednesday, September 30 Lola's Room Facebook Live Cocktail Making with McMenamins Friday, August 7 Event goes live at 4 pm 21 and over at All Locations Facebook Live Cocktail Making with McMenamins Friday, August 14 Event goes live at 4 pm 21 and over at All Locations Facebook Live Cocktail Making with McMenamins Friday, August 21 Event goes live at 4 pm 21 and over at All Locations Facebook Live Cocktail Making with McMenamins Friday, August 28 Event goes live at 4 pm 21 and over at All Locations * POSTPONED * TORRES Wednesday, September 30 6 pm doors, 7 pm show All ages welcome at Lola's Room Weathers Wednesday, March 10 6 pm doors, 7 pm show All ages welcome at Lola's Room Holy F Monday, March 29 7 pm doors, 8 pm show All ages welcome at Lola's Room Alexandra Savior Monday, May 10 7 pm doors, 8 pm show All ages welcome at Lola's Room An oasis below the Crystal The little sister of the historic Crystal Ballroom, Lola's Room is located on the second floor, directly below the Crystal.
