About Jay Mabin Trio

Jay Mabin Trio

Jay Mabin- harmonica extraordinaire.
A veteran of the Northwest music scene for over 50 years, Jay has earned himself a reputation as a true, musical legend. Born in Chicago, one might say that the Rhythm & Blues scene of the time might have had a significant influence on him; the likes of Little Walter and Junior Wells, although that would only scratch the surface. Upon moving to the greater Seattle area in the 1960's, Jay was exposed to everything from jazz to rock, with everything in between. His ability to seamlessly weave together the sum of all his influences into one cohesive and original voice is something that rarely comes about during one's lifetime.

The harmonica itself is seemingly simplistic; a connection to a sort of childhood nostalgia. When played by a master such as Jay, it becomes an instrument capable of an extremely wide, emotional palette. He can have you laughing with a familiar and whimsical quote with one song or pull the heartstrings with a gorgeous ballad the next, all while expressing his own, unique self.

Joined by Mason Hargrove on guitar and Osama Afifi on bass, the Jay Mabin Trio has worked together in various incarnations for the past 20 years. The kinetic interaction between them helps to take the listener on a musical road-trip through the Great American Songbook; stopping off for a pit-stop with Miles Davis and the Beatles, then continuing down an uncharted, sonic highway that somehow seems familiar, yet still adventurous. This group effortlessly builds a musical soundtrack comprised of bluesy ballads, swinging standards, and heartfelt grooves for all of those willing to travel with them.
